Artist Spotlight:
Ivalas Quartet
Founded in 2017, the Ivalas Quartet served as Caramoor’s 2022–23 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence, a flagship mentoring program made possible through generous philanthropic support. During their residency, the Quartet highlighted past and present BIPOC composers alongside the standard repertory, and they premiered a newly commissioned work. In addition to their performances in the historic Rosen House Music Room, the Quartet worked with student ensembles in local schools during two 10-day residency periods.
Since then, the Quartet has signed with professional management, served as the 2024–2025 Curator and Performing Ensemble of the Schneider Concerts at The New School in New York City, and been named the inaugural Fellows at the Kaufmann Music Center for the 2025–26 season.

“Our time as the Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence was immensely impactful. Over the course of the residency, we were able to present three distinct concert programs, for which Caramoor granted us total artistic liberty. We are profoundly grateful to Caramoor’s leadership for fostering our creativity in programming and for giving us such a wonderful sandbox to play in. We have so many fond memories of our time at Caramoor!”
