Be warm, welcoming, and friendly.
Treat all visitors, staff, historic areas, and grounds with respect and consideration.
Be an advocate for Caramoor, its mission, and its programs, on and off site.
Arrive on time for the scheduled assignment and communicate personal delays or cancellations via email.
Adhere to dress code guidelines.
Complete a background check facilitated by Caramoor.

Caramoor's Audience Greeters are responsible for warmly welcoming guests and ensuring a positive experience. This includes directing guests, providing information about the day's events, answering questions, and helping everyone feel safe and comfortable. They may also help with checking tickets. Assignments are generally a 1-to-2-hour time commitment.
Check-in Attendants are responsible for scanning and validating tickets for all events using smartphone interfaces. They provide initial directions to arriving guests and promptly communicate any ticket or technical issues to the House Manager. Assignments are generally a 1-hour time commitment.
Ushers work within the venue (which may be outdoors) to guide guests to their seats, distribute concert programs, answer general venue inquiries, and provide essential observational support to the House Manager. Assignments are generally a 1-hour time commitment, and ushers must be agile and able to stand and walk for the duration of the seating time (30 – 45 minutes).
Docents lead engaging tours through the historic Rosen House, sharing stories of the Rosen family and the collection of art and objects they built, as well as information about the architecture and grounds. They ensure visitors have a memorable and insightful experience while overseeing the preservation and security of the house and its artifacts. Docents lead 45-minute tours of the first floor and also staff Open Houses, where they may be stationed in one room or area of the house. Assignments are generally a 2-or-3-hour time commitment once they have successfully completed their training. Attendance at occasional workshops and refreshers are required, as well as keeping up with recommended readings.
New for 2026–2027, we are especially looking for docent candidates with a strong interest in working with elementary-age students and families of all ages, as we build our school field trip and family programs. Current or former teacher? Parent or grandparent? We’d love to meet you!
Lindley Thomasset, a Caramoor volunteer since 2012, remembers the night she met Caramoor’s founder, Lucie Rosen, in June of 1966. The temperature that day reached 107 degrees in New York City, where she was home from Bennington College for the weekend. She drove up to Caramoor in an air-conditioned car with her father, four siblings, and adopted mother, the beloved coloratura opera singer Beverly Sills, who was opening Caramoor’s 11th season with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and Maestro Julius Rudel. The program included Poulenc’s Gloria and Debussy’s L’Enfant prodigue.
