About the Artists
Sophia Baete, mezzo-soprano
Sophia Baete is an American Mezzo Soprano with a burning passion for telling stories on stage. Currently, Ms. Baete is a second year master’s student in Vocal Arts at The Juilliard School where she also completed her undergraduate studies under the tutelage of Darrell Babidge. Sophia is proud to be a Jerome L. Greene Fellow at The Juilliard School.
Sophia was thrilled to begin 2025 with her Carnegie Hall debut as a Young Artist in Carnegie Hall’s prestigious SongStudio. She also made her Alice Tully Hall debut, performing Un Pâtre in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges with Juilliard Opera. March brought a return to Carnegie Hall, where Sophia performed the world premiere of Matthew Aucoin’s piece, This Earth, as part of the Juilliard at Zankel Hall series. For her summer season, Sophia was honored to return as a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL) for a second consecutive season, where she made her OTSL debut as Sally in Die Fledermaus. Following her time in Saint Louis, she happily served as a vocal fellow for Ravinia Steans Music Institute. Additionally, Sophia had the privilege of covering Mère Marie in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites and Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with Juilliard Opera.
