Due to the inclement weather, tonight’s performance will be moved into the fully covered Venetian Theater. There is no need to bring your own chairs or blankets, chairs will be provided for you. Tickets are still available for this performance.

In 2022, Brooklyn-based singer and composer Arooj Aftab became the first Pakistani woman to win a Grammy, for her album Vulture Prince. Love in Exile is a new project featuring two of her most trusted collaborators, pianist Vijay Iyer and multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, who together transform voice and electronic sound into melodic sculpture. Their performances are largely improvised, which allows the music endless options. Aftab’s mesmerizing vocals are sure to cast a spell under the summer night stars.

Summer Season Shuttle / Take the FREE shuttle from Metro North’s Katonah train station to and from Caramoor! The shuttle runs before and after every summer afternoon and evening concert. No need to RSVP to get on the shuttle, it will be there when you arrive (in the parking lot side of the station). And if it’s not there, that means that it just left and will be back in 5-10 minutes!

“All three of these musicians have proven that they are singular talents, that they can take center stage and bend music to their will. On Love in Exile, they’re confident enough in their abilities to merge and meld into something simpler but no less impressive. No definitions required.”

Learn More About the Artists

Love in Exile is a new project offered by Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer, and Shahzad Ismaily on a limited basis in anticipation of their upcoming recording by the same name. This project creates lush, haunting collaborative soundscapes of meditation and yearning, described by Aftab as “about self-exile, and the search for freedom and identity, and finding it through love and music.”

Aftab is a semi-classical, Hindustani, minimalist composer, songwriter, and singer. She was recently awarded the Grammy for Best Global Music Performance and is the first ever Pakistani artist to receive a Grammy Award. Iyer is one of the leading music-makers of his generation. His honors include a MacArthur Fellowship, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, a United States Artist Fellowship, a Grammy nomination, and the Alpert Award in the Arts. Ismaily is a multi-instrumentalist and composer. He has recorded and performed with an incredibly diverse assemblage of musicians, including Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed, Tom Waits, and Jolie Holland to name a few.
