We note the passing of former Trustee, William Kelly Simpson, who served on the Board from 1973-2014.
The Board of Trustees and staff of Caramoor are saddened to learn of the March 24, 2017 passing of former Trustee, William Kelly Simpson, who served on the Board from 1973 to 2014. We remember Mr. Simpson as a courtly gentleman, a Professor of Egyptology at Yale with highly enviable academic, authorial, and curatorial credentials, with national and international awards to his credit, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and an honorary doctorate. He and his late wife Marilyn were quite generous to Caramoor and other local organizations, such as the Katonah Museum of Art and the Friends of the John Jay Homestead. Mr. and Mrs. Simpson were often in attendance at Caramoor concerts and our special events like our Music Room Opera Benefit Concerts and the various June Galas. Beyond being loyal audience members, through the Marilyn M. Simpson Charitable Fund and other foundation support, Mr. and Mrs. Simpson made many significant contributions to Caramoor over the years, particularly for capital projects and for the mentoring and opera programs, most notably by establishing the Marilyn M. Simpson Opera Fund endowment.
Our sincere condolences are extended to Mr. Simpson’s loving family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on, April 29, 2017 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 382 Cantitoe Street, Bedford, New York 10506.
