CARAMOOR CENTER FOR MUSIC AND THE ARTS ANNOUNCES
RADIO BROADCAST OF THE KNIGHTS’ PERFORMANCE AT ITS 2013 FALL FESTIVAL
CONCERT TO AIR ON WQXR 105.9 FM AND LIVE STREAM
AT WWW.WQXR.ORG ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH AT 9:00PM
HOSTED BY WQXR ON-AIR PERSONALITY ELLIOTT FORREST
On Friday, February 7th at 9pm, WQXR, New York City’s all-classical station and WQXW 90.3 FM, its Westchester sister station, will broadcast a concert by The Knights recorded at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in October 2013. The concert will also be available for live streaming at www.wqxr.org.
The concert was rooted in Baroque styles and forms revisiting the concept of the concerto grosso. The program featured the New York Premiere of Concerto for Santur and Violin by The Knights Artistic Director, violinist/composer Colin Jacobsen, and fellow Silk Road Ensemble member virtuoso Siamak Aghaei. In addition to works by Bach, Haydn, Steve Reich, and Stravinsky showcasing members of The Knights as soloists, the concert concluded with …the ground beneath our feet, a new piece composed collectively by several members of the orchestra, ranging in style from Italian Baroque forms to modern-day singer/songwriting.
ABOUT THE KNIGHTS
The Knights, led by Artistic Directors Colin and Eric Jacobson, is an orchestral collective, flexible in size and repertory, dedicated to transforming the concert experience. Members of the New York-based ensemble are soloists, composers, improvisers, arrangers, and, above all, collaborators. Together, they create music that transcends boundaries. The Knights’ 2013-2014 season features a collaboration with the Mark Morris Dance Group at Austin’s Texas Performing Arts, a weeklong residency at Dartmouth College, return engagements at Caramoor, Ravinia, and Central Park’s Naumburg Orchestral Concerts, and a continued partnership with WQXR-New York Public Radio. This spring, The Knights embark on the orchestra’s fifth European tour and debut at the renowned Ojai Festival, Berkeley’s Cal Performances, and Tanglewood Music Festival.
