For Kate Morton, no one has been more influential than her mom, whose unwavering encouragement and support have shaped her life in countless ways.
Good thing Kate loves to read — she’s set an ambitious goal of 50 books this year! Among her favorite novels are Severance by Ling Ma, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. (Excuse us while we head to the library … )
When preparing for an operatic performance, Kate approaches the score like a script, diving deep into the storytelling. After a thorough vocal warm-up, she incorporates stretching and even some dancing, perhaps channeling her dream role, Sally Bowles in Cabaret.
A citizen of the Cherokee Nation from Oklahoma, Kate is passionate about Native American language preservation through music. She often seeks opportunities to perform in Cherokee, honoring her heritage through song. Though she goes by Kate, her full name is Katelyn, and her Cherokee name, tsigelili, means “Chickadee.”
When inspiration strikes, she also paints — check out her stuff at @kateraquelmorton!
