Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts presents
The Dover Quartet
2013-14 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence
Sunday, November 17 at 4 P.M. in the Music Room
Katonah, NY – On Sunday, November 17 at 4 p.m. in the Music Room, the accomplished Dover Quartet will make their debut at Caramoor as the 2013-14 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence with a dramatic program. The opening piece, String Quartet in b, Op. 11 by Samuel Barber, is best known for its middle movement which Barber arranged for string orchestra, Adagio for Strings. Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 4 in e, Op. 44will precede the closing masterpiece, Beethoven’s final string quartet, String Quartet No. 16 in F, Op. 135. The Dover Quartet is sure to present a performance “with a level of nuance unexpected of musicians so young”. (The Wall Street Journal). The Dover Quartet is the fourteenth Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence at Caramoor. The ensemble, who placed first in 2013 Banff String Quartet competition, will be visiting schools in the Fall and Spring and performing concerts at Caramoor in the Fall, Spring and Summer.
