Always expansive in its programming, Caramoor launches the 2015 spring season with a wide range of musical offerings this March. It begins on March 7 with a “Roots in the Music Room” concert by Dom Flemons and Kristin Andreassen & Jefferson Hamer. Dom Flemons’s latest album, Prospect Hill, was recently named one of NPR’s Top Folk Albums of 2014. On March 15, Caramoor’s Schwab Vocal Rising Stars program, in conjunction with the New York Festival of Song, presents Bel Canto/Can Belto—an exploration of Italian song from the Romantic era to post-verismo, paired with songs by Italian-Americans. The afternoon of music features four promising singers selected by Artistic Director Stephen Blier for a week-long Caramoor residency that includes daily coaching, rehearsals, and workshops, culminating in this concert in the Music Room. Chamber music is the focus of the remaining March concerts. Caramoor’s 2015 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence, the Calidore String Quartet, visits for a week-long stay and gives a duo of concerts, first in the Music Room at the Rosen House on March 22 and then at the Waveny Park Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan, CT, on March 29, as part of the Caramoor@Waveny series. This week also marks the quartet’s involvement in the Caramoor Student Strings program, an education initiative in the secondary schools with a classroom-based program of concerts, conversations, and performance clinics. On March 28, Caramoor favorite Edward Arron & Friendspresent an evening of chamber works by Mozart, Dohnányi, and Brahms.
