Kathy Schuman, Vice President, Artistic Programming & Executive Producer looks forward to welcoming the Takács Quartet for the opening of the 2017-18 Fall-Spring Season in the Music Room.
It’s a new month and the beginning of a new season at Caramoor! Our Fall-Spring season in the Music Room kicks off on Sunday, October 15th with the world-renowned Takács Quartet, making their long overdue Caramoor debut. The concert also marks a ‘debut’ of sorts for me, opening the first season I’ve programmed since joining Caramoor last December.
I first heard the Takács Quartet about 25 years ago and have been an avid fan ever since. I must have attended more than a dozen of their concerts over the years, including multiple performances at London’s South Bank Centre and at Carnegie Hall, not to mention the hours spent listening to many of their fantastic recordings, such as the complete Bartók Quartets, late Beethoven Quartets and many more. Widely acknowledged to be one of the top 2-3 string quartets performing today, an opportunity to hear them in the intimate Music Room is not to be missed.
First violinist Edward Dusinberre has written a fascinating book, Beethoven for a Later Age: The Journey of a String Quartet, published last year. The book looks behind the scenes at the daily life of a quartet, exploring the creative tension between individual and group expression and how four people can enjoy making music together over a long period of time.
There’s so much to look forward to this Fall, including more chamber music concerts by the Verona Quartet (our Ernst Stiefel Quartet-in-Residence) and the Evnin Rising Stars. We’ve got American Roots Music with Richard Thompson and Noam Pikelny, jazz trumpeter Bria Skonberg, and a Christmas concert by the early music group TENET. Keep an eye on our blog for more about these and other concerts the Music Room this season.
