We decided to ask the Caramoor staff to contribute one song to our Fall 2021 Staff Playlist. Just one song that reminds them of fall. The one song where if you put it on, light a candle, throw on a blanket, pour a cup of something hot, then everything feels right in the world. We hope you listen to the playlist, and along the way, learn a little bit more about our staff and what makes them smile.[Read more…] about Fall 2021 Staff Playlist

The Board of Trustees and staff of Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah, New York mourn the loss of Michael E. Gellert, who served on Caramoor’s Board of Trustees from 1970 until his passing. As former Chairman of the Board, Mr. Gellert’s leadership and counsel helped steward Caramoor for much of our history. Always a true gentleman, we will miss his warm smile, the twinkle in his eye, and generous spirit. We extend our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife Mary and their family.
Honoring a life of service.

On Saturday, July 3rd Caramoor will present the GRAMMY-winning new-music choir The Crossing, led by Donald Nally, in a unique, socially distant, live performance titled The Forest. In a time when choirs cannot sing and perform together in conventional ways, The Forest will feature 24 singers performing along a path through a mostly wooded area of Caramoor’s grounds, while audience members walk through the soundscape created by specially-designed individual speakers which allow the singers to stand 30 feet from each other and the path.
Along with our July 11 Ten Thousand Birds, it’s one of this summer’s special “experiential” performances that Caramoor is uniquely positioned to present during this strange, coming-out-of- the-pandemic time, and it’s sure to be a very powerful experience for performers and audience alike.
I asked Donald Nally, the conductor of The Crossing, about the piece and the choir.[Read more…] about Making The Forest Sing

New permanent sound artwork by Trimpin anchors Caramoor’s Sonic Innovations collection
When Caramoor first asked Trimpin to create a permanent sound art sculpture in celebration of its 75th Anniversary, the world-renowned sound artist thought about Caramoor’s acoustical environment: the birds singing, the wind in the trees, and the blissful absence of street noise. He then conceived of in “C”, the interactive kinetic sculpture shaped as a 16-foot high double letter C now located in the entry plaza, welcoming guests as they arrive.[Read more…] about Summer 2021: Sound Art at Caramoor
