Sisyphus 2.0 (2013)

An interactive audio puzzle.

Sisyphus 2.0 (2013) is an interactive sound sculpture created by NYC theater company The Nerve Tank. It is an audio puzzle in the form of a six-foot steel sphere. Its sound changes as it rolls, guiding its handlers towards the puzzle’s solution as they “play” it like a huge instrument. The work was premiered in 2013 in midtown Manhattan as part of The Nerve Tank’s original production of Glory Road, presented by Arts Brookfield.

The Artists.

Named “One to Watch” in 2010 by BroadwayWorld, The Nerve Tank is a world-class innovator in theatrical performance. Founded by Melanie S. Armer and Chance D. Muehleck, the company collaborates with actors and designers (including resident sound designer Stephan Moore) in a spirit of artistic adventure and remodels traditional performance methods. By combining elements of popular culture, mediated image, and physical presence the company tests the lines of engagement between spectator and live event. Based in NYC the Nerve Tank has staged works at LaMama, The Grace Plaza, chashama, FringeNYC, Dixon Place, The Tank, University Settlement, Incubator Arts Project, the World Financial Center Winter Garden, and Pittsburgh’s Flux Festival. From 2008 to 2010 The Nerve Tank was the resident theatre company of the Brooklyn Lyceum. In 2011, The Nerve Tank was named a Person of the Year by the New York Theatre Experience and Sisyphus 2.0 won the AGA Galvanizing Award in 2014.
