Lake Street Dive singer-songwriter Rachael Price and composer, singer, and guitarist Vilray turned their shared love for the jazz music of the 1930s and ’40s into a heart-warming collaboration between friends. After meeting at the New England Conservatory of Music, the duo later reunited for a performance that sparked songwriting inspiration. Performing a mixture of original songs and forgotten treasures, Rachael & Vilray welcome you to an evening rich with nostalgia for an era gone by.
Please bring your own seating for this concert, as it takes place on our grassy Friends Field. You can even bring or purchase a picnic dinner!
“The voices of acoustic duo Rachael & Vilray are magical enough on their own, but when they blend in song, the results are utterly sublime.”
Vilray & Rachael Price met at Boston’s New England Conservatory as students of Jazz. This duo grew from a shared reverence for the pop music of the 1930s and 40s and its wide range of moods. With simple arrangements and only a guitar for accompaniment, they perform original works and revive forgotten gems of the jazz big bands and western swing ensembles. Their sound recalls both the warmth of radio’s golden age and the intimacy of parlor concerts in a time before recordings.
The New York Times called their 2019 self-titled debut “as cozy as it is sophisticated.” Since that album’s release, Rachael & Vilray have graced the stages of Newport Folk Festival, Lincoln Center, San Francisco Jazz Festival, and many more. A follow-up album from Nonesuch Records is coming soon.
