Hopalong Andrew brings his high-spirited “urban cowboy” music to Dancing at Dusk, turning Caramoor’s Friends Field into a joyful, family-friendly hoedown. With playful Western-themed songs, call-and-response games, and plenty of chances to move, he delights kids and grownups alike.
The Dancing at Dusk concert series also features great food! Bring your own picnic, pre-order one crafted by GE Brown, or enjoy a fresh pie made on the spot by Pizza Girls! Or, start your evening with a pre-concert family-friendly cooking class and prepare your own meal inspired by the music, presented by Feeding Young Foodies.
Dancing at Dusk is made possible through the generosity of the Bauer Family Foundation.
Join us for a series of hands-on culinary classes designed for children, where they make dishes from scratch and enjoy what they create. Kids and their parents will create a dish themed to the evening’s performance and get to enjoy it during the show! Feeding Young Foodies believes that it’s never too early to introduce children to a sophisticated and diverse flavor profile. They feel about food the way we do about music – it’s all about creating an experience that brings families closer together! $55 per participant.
Rain or Shine Policy: All events at Caramoor take place rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, this performance will move indoors or under a covered space.
Hopalong Andrew sings clever and whimsical cowboy songs celebrating modern American life -the energy, diversity of people and cultures, and sense of possibility -with the fun-loving "can-do" spirit of the American West. His performances involve multiple instruments and lassos. He's been presented at top national venues such as Wolf Trap National Park, Levitt Pavilion and Bryant Park, His award-winning debut album has over 100K streams within its first year, and is receiving national radio airplay (Kids Place Live) with accolades from The New York Times and national family press. His high-spirited concerts are designed for the whole family to enjoy -and besides, who else will lasso you a cab while playing the "William Tell" Overture on harmonica?
Hopalong Andrew, born as Andrew Vladeck in Manhattan, began his career as an Urban Park Ranger in Central Park. He loved working with the diverse population and contrasting urban and natural environments -and he began developing his whimsical urban cowboy persona. "Being a 'fish-out-of-water' allows me to gawk at interesting things in a fun-loving way," says Hopalong Andrew. With obvious affection for the singing cowboys of the silver screen, country stars such as Hank Williams, and parodists such as "Weird Al" Yankovic, his retro-toned vibe captures the humor and whimsy of novelty programming of the Golden Age of Radio.
Andrew has been a fixture on the New York music scene since the 90s,sharing bills with The National, Andrew Bird, Norah Jones, David Johanesen, Soulive, Jeff Buckley, Ani DiFranco, and others. Awards include First Place, International Songwriting Competition, multiple honors in Billboard Song Contest, Great American Song Contest and UK Songwriting Semi-Finalist. With Adrian Grenier, Vladeck founded The Honey Brothers, releasing three albums and playing main stages at national festivals with special guest musicians such as Marky Ramone and Amanda Palmer.
