In our second annual celebration of the holiday Día de los Muertos, Caramoor welcomes Calpulli Mexican Dance Company for a fun-filled afternoon of live music, dance, and stories, all capturing the colorful, passionate, inviting traditions of Latin America. Día de los Muertos combines the ancient Aztec custom of celebrating ancestors with All Souls’ Day, a holiday that Spanish invaders in the early 1500s brought to Mexico. Most strongly identified with Mexico, Día de los Muertos is celebrated throughout Latin America and in Latino communities everywhere! Bring the entire family to enjoy glorious costumes, contagious rhythms, and captivating performers who will share the meaning of this vibrant holiday honoring generations that have passed.
