Member of Caramoor Family, Julius Rudel, Passes Away at 93

    By Roslyn Wertheimer
    Julius RudelNew York TimesObituaryopera

Julius Rudel was involved in the early days of the Caramoor Festival with Lucie Rosen, serving as Music Director from 1964 to 1978. Rudel was influential with Caramoor's opera programming and has made a lasting impact on the music world. Along with the many musical accomplishments that marked his stellar career, conductor Julius Rudel had a special relationship with Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Listen to a special installment of OSLradio that honors the spirit and legacy of our longtime friend and musical journeyman with a spotlight on two OSL recordings made under Rudel’s direction: a spectacular collection of Mozart piano concertos with John Browning, and Haydn’s profound and dramatic work The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross.
