Overview

Sunday October 24, 2021 @ 2:00pm

Caramoor collaborates with Mexico Beyond Mariachi to bring a family-friendly afternoon of music and dance to celebrate  the Mexican holiday Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Typically, the holiday involves the gathering of family and friends to pray for and to remember those who have passed, however instead of mourning, the day is filled with celebrations.

The afternoon takes place on Friends Field, and will include several traditional and regional dance performances leading to a vibrant final performance. Appropriate for all ages, the event includes arts and crafts. Food will be available – from the Flores Food Truck – for purchase. Hosted by Maricarmen Godoy.

This outdoor event will take place rain or shine. Please plan accordingly and bring your own seating.

For outdoor events, we are not requiring proof of vaccination or the use of a mask, though the CDC recommends wearing one in crowded locations with rising virus caseloads.

2:00pm-4:00pm / Mexico Beyond Mariachi Our journey begins over 600 years ago in the land of the Meshica, with the sound of the drums, calling our ancestors. We pay homage and celebrate those who have crossed over to the great beyond before us — parents, grandparents, great-great grandparents — those who make us who we are today. Explore the haunting melodies of La Llorona and La Bruja from the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz. Dance with the “Viejitos,” a playful and traditional dance from the state of Michoacan that represents the changing of the seasons. Listen to the story of how Doña Panchita cheated Death, and so much more. This vibrant show interweaves traditional Mexican music and dance with the stories, myths, and legends of Day of the Dead.
